ABOUT THE WORKSHOPS ON NONVIOLENCE

World March Peace & Nonviolence Workshops

These workshops have been designed for students in Grades 3 through 6 (8-12 years old) and consist of eleven workshop sessions of one hour each. The aim is to have the first ten workshops finished prior to Nov 19-21, 2009, Canada's "World March Days", as these Days are the subject of the 11th and final workshop.

The World March Peace and Nonviolence Workshops lead to reflection in fundamental issues as peace, self-knowledge and nonviolence. To increase their impact, and to promote an openness to the world, students will have the chance to be matched to a class in another province or country who will be doing the same project they are. At the end of the workshops, the idea is to send to your twinned school your completed workshop banner, and they will send you theirs.

The World March for Peace and Nonviolence aims to be a kind of seed for a new social consciousness of nonviolence to sprout, and it is in that spirit that these workshops have been prepared. Our desire is that you will find them useful in furthering your class discussions on Peace and Nonviolence. And we would love to have feedback on their use!

Designed by Marilyn Abraham, an Ontario certified teacher, based on the initial "Education for Nonviolence" work of Anne Farrell and Maude Frechette in Quebec.

The Workshops can be downloaded in the MATERIALS section.
